How to Buy an Original JoCa Painting, Step by Step

Buying an original painting from an artist's own site is simpler than buying at a fair, and less familiar. There is no booth, no one to ask in the moment and, for many works, no price on the page. This guide walks through how collecting an original JoCa works, in the order you will actually meet each question, using only what this site states.

Are JoCa's paintings originals or prints?

Originals. Every work currently offered is a unique oil painting on canvas, painted by JoCa, with no edition and no reproduction. There is exactly one of each, and once it is acquired it is gone.

JoCa produced limited edition giclée prints for about a year and has discontinued them to focus solely on original work. If you have seen a JoCa print elsewhere, it belongs to that earlier period; it is not what the site offers now.

That matters for how you read a product page. A title such as Nuclear Seed refers to one physical object, not to an image available in several formats.

What sizes do JoCa's paintings come in?

The range is wide, and size changes how the work behaves.

• Intimate: the six Bell portraits from Echoes of Haworth, such as Ellis Bell (Emily Brontë), are 27 × 20 cm. Ghastlighting (1) is 50 × 46 cm. These reward close, sustained looking and suit a reading corner, a hallway or a desk wall.
• Mid-range: works around a metre, such as Overwhelmed (1) at 100 × 100 cm or Catherine Earnshaw (2) at 100 × 67 cm, hold a room without dominating it.
• Large: Winter's Morning (1) is 120 × 90 cm, and Nuclear Seed is 150 × 150 cm. At that scale the painting sets the tone of a whole wall and needs viewing distance to resolve.

Exact dimensions in centimetres and inches are on every product page. A useful habit: mark the size on the wall with tape before you ask about a work. What comes with an original JoCa?

Read the details line at the bottom of each product page. It states, work by work:

• Medium and year: for example "Oil on canvas · 2026".
• Uniqueness: "Unique work — no edition, no reproduction."
• Presentation: whether the work is mounted on a professional wooden frame, ready to hang, or ships rolled in a tube, ready for framing.
• Certificate: recent works include a certificate of authenticity. Some works are also hand-signed and dedicated to the collector who acquires them.

Which JoCa paintings are available now?

New work is released in small groups and often finds collectors before it reaches the site. Echoes of Haworth, for example, sold out on its opening night at Galera 32 in Mexico City on 17 September 2026, in under two hours.

At the time of writing, the originals page lists three paintings available through JoCa's gallery, Art of NOMA: La Bruja, Self Assemble 1 and Self Assemble 2, all oil on canvas. If a work you like shows no price, or is marked as unavailable, that is not the end of the conversation. Ask.

How do I ask about a painting, a price or a commission?

Use the contact form. It is for enquiries about available work, commissions, exhibitions and press, and JoCa replies directly. A good first message is short and specific:

1. the title of the work, exactly as it appears on the site;
2. where you are, so shipping can be worked out;
3. what you want to know: availability, price, presentation, or timing.

Commissions are possible. JoCa accepts a small number each year, which suits projects that need a specific scale, palette or orientation. Interior designers, architects and developers placing work in residential or commercial projects should see the Trade Program, which offers preferential terms and priority access to new paintings. Apply through the contact form with your practice name, location and a note about the project.

How do shipping, insurance and returns work?

From the Shipping Policy, Refund Policy and FAQs:

• Dispatch: most works ship from the studio within 3 to 5 business days. Weekend and holiday orders are processed the next business day.
• International: orders ship via FedEx Economy, with the cost calculated at checkout. Customs duties, taxes and clearance fees are the buyer's responsibility.
• Insurance: Route Package Protection can be added at checkout and covers theft, loss or damage in transit. Claims go through Route within 14 days.
• On arrival: inspect the work and contact support@joca-art.com within 24 hours if it is damaged, defective or incorrect.
• Returns: full-price works can be returned within 14 days of fulfillment, in the same condition and original packaging; return shipping is paid by the buyer. International returns are not accepted.

What should I check before I commit?

• The exhibition record. The Exhibitions page lists every show, each linked to the venue or to coverage, from Non Finito at the Museo de la Ciudad de Mérida (May to 30 August 2026, 30 works) to Echoes of Haworth at Galera 32 and the upcoming Invisibilis at the Centro Cultural Caja Real, San Luis Potosí.
• The press. The Press page links each article to its original publication.
